Below is a list of few important screening tests every woman should take keeping in mind her age, family history, own health history and her other risk factors.


Breast Cancer Screening

  • Clinical breast examination, to check for any skin changes, lumps or nipple discharge, which could be signs of breast cancer needs to be done.
  • Mammography: Low dose x-ray of breasts to see for any changes in breast tissue.
  • Sonomammography: If mammography is inconclusive, sonomammography is also advised for better evaluation of breast tissue.
  • FNAC / Biopsy : If there is any clinical or radiological suspision of cancer, confirmation is done by FNAC / biopsy.

Cervical Cancer Screening

  • PAP Smear: Cervical cancer is majorly caused by HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) which is a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STD). This test detects abnormal cells in the cervix, so that they can be removed even before they turn cancerous.
  • PAP Test also helps to detect certain viginal infection.

Screening tests help to dignose the chances of cancer if any at a very early stage. This helps to start treatment early for better response and prognosis.
